The Va Village

An Introduction to Va Nationality
    With a population of 396,600, Va live in Cangyuan and Ximeng Va Autonomous Counties in Yunnan Province. Va is successor of ancient Baipu. The Va language belongs to the Va-Deang branch of the Mon-Khmer of the Austro-Asiatic language family. Va engage in agriculture, and sidelined with animal husbandry, gathering and hunting. They live in wood-structured thatched houses. Rice and corn are basic food. They used to drinking tea and wine and chewing areca-nut. New Rice festival is most celebrated. Va people believe in nature worship and primitive religion.
