The Derung Village

An Introduction to Derung Nationality
    With a population of 7426, Derung live in the Gongshan Derung Autonomous County of the Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province. They have been in the stage of primitive commune till the 1950s, practicing slash-and-burn economy, keeping records by wood-cutting. Now they engage in highland agriculture and hunting and gathering. The Derung language belongs to the Tibetan-Burmese group of the Chinese-Tibetan language family. Derung New Year is most celebrated festival. Derung people believe in nature worship.
