The Seaweed-Stone House

The courtyard serves as the VIP reception area and meeting place.

This is a model of a Han house in the coastal areas in Shandong Province . The seaweed that makes up the roof contains a glutinous substance which causes the seaweed to stick together thus keeping out wind and rain and becoming resistant to heat, corrosion and combustion. Such roofs can last 30 years without rotting. The seaweed is thicker near the gables. It looks like a camel back with beautiful curve.
